Welcome to Jon Roy and the Music.
About
I am bringing Urban Industrial Indie folk back to life,
I am just your ordinary everyday guy, defining myself as a songwriter. I love the feeling I get when I hit the last note, I can hear the cheer of the crowd, people cheering for the song, the song I wrote from my soul. I think this is one of the most moving things anyone could ever experience. Performing live is like undressing your soul to the world.
Once on stage, the feelings of pride and love can be overwhelming. I think if you are passionate about what you are doing up there on stage and the crowd is feeling that with you, it grounds you beyond any real self-consciousness. That is what is so addictingly beautiful about performing. Any audience can fill those gaps in your psyche, and then you are capable of mind-blowing art. It is about synchronicity, reciprocation.
I like most people can be a little modest, so I do not see myself as the next best thing or Gods gift to music. I want to be honest and give an audience a piece of myself to be remembered by, to take home with them to call their own.
I would love nothing more than to have the luxury of a comfortable living writing and performing the music I have written. Some would consider my songs sentimental or even sad, but my goal is not to come off emotionally extraneous. I would not touch on a nerve but reach someone in a very minimalist way, so they barely know what’s hitting them as they re-listen they capture something a little more personal. To me, it is the ultimate compliment. It means you did something that managed to whisper to another person’s soul rather than harass it.
