Jon Roy Music is pleased to release his debut EP Lights in the Sky on Friday 4 June 2021.
the track-list;
- Lights in the Sky
- Revolution!
- Spin Around
- Sally
- The Enemy
This small collection of songs has been on a portable hard drive in my spare room for the best part of 10 years.
When I listened back to them, I wish I’d have had the confidence to put them out way back when, as I believe they still sound amazing. and the themes of the songs still stand true today.
Track by track.
Lights in the sky – I wrote most of this one on the longest short work home from a night out in Manchester, I vividly recall realising that the starts were more noticeably absent from the sky, and I just started pulling it together from there and it stuck in my head.
Revolution – Every generation needs an anti-establishment song, I remember at the time thinking there really hadn’t been any balls out f*ck you songs, though there seemed to be a lot of political singers, there were no political songs, so this was my letter to them to do something instead of sitting it out.
Spin Around – This is just utter nonsense and a lot of fun, this is actually the demo version but I love the noises it’s got. the younger my wouldn’t be happy about me putting it on the EP, but it makes me smile.
Sally – I once got asked if this one was about a lady of the night, it’s really not. it was a love-hate song for when love blinds you to the hate of someone you’re attracted to. It is very bittersweet.
The Enemy – This was not meant to be as political as it turned out to be, I love that it still stands up today though (I think so at least). It was a song for unrequited love. but as an Anxiety lad in his late teens early twenties, I dint know what I loved or hated more. made a cracking song though.
The EP also includes bonus demo recordings Alex, Confession and The Last Train.
Lights in the Sky will be released on Bandcamp Friday 4th June, follow us there to get alerts for all our releases.
